Hello,
I am a student going into my third year doing a degree in Acting. My name is Jamie and I am 24 years old.
I am writing a play for my practical dissertation and I am currently looking at the subject of domestic violence and abuse within a relationship, with a male victim. I want to make sure that this piece of work is informative, unique and, most importantly, realistic and true to life. I want to get an idea of what it's like to be in a relationship like this. It is so important to me that I get this right and that I represent and honour people in these difficult positions.
I would very much appreciate some help and advice, and I have some questions that I'd like people to answer if possible. If you don't feel comfortable with answering these questions publicly, please send me a private message. You have my word that any information gathered here will be treated in the strictest of confidence, and usernames etc will be deleted if the information is used in my professional portfolio. Please only respond if you can.
The questions are:
- Are you married?
- Are you male or female? (The piece is focused on a male victim, but feel free to send me a response)
- How long have you been/were you in an abusive relationship?
- At what stage of your relationship did the abuse start?
- How often were you abused?
- Could you describe the feeling you get when your partner abuses you? How does it make you feel?
- Have you ever - or come close to - retaliating physically against your partner?
- What makes you stay in an abusive relationship?
- Could you please describe an example of when you have been abused physically, mentally or emotionally?
- Do/did you ever, or have you ever, feared for your life whilst in this relationship?
- Has/did your relationship with family and friends changed as a result of being in this relationship?
Again, private message me if you would prefer, otherwise reply below. As I said, everything said here will treated within the strictest of confidence and I will only use information given for research purposes.
Thank you.
Jamie.
